Developed from captured Soviet-built armored vehicles, the Tiran 5 retained the T-55's distinctive rounded turret, low-profile hull, and 100mm main gun while incorporating equipment and modifications specific to Israeli military service. The kit features detailed exterior components, including the turret, suspension, running gear, and Israeli-specific fittings that distinguish the Tiran 5 from its Soviet counterpart.

Based on Tamiya's T-55 model, this version includes newly tooled parts representing the Tiran 5's unique equipment and vehicle configuration. Two half-body crew figures and dedicated Israeli military markings are also provided. The combination of Soviet tank engineering and Israeli modifications makes this model suitable for Cold War armored vehicle collections, Middle Eastern military dioramas, and builders interested in captured and repurposed military equipment.

<span Battle Tank

The Tiran 5 was an Israeli-modified version of the Soviet T-55 main battle tank. Following the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel captured substantial numbers of Soviet-built T-54 and T-55 tanks from opposing Arab forces. Rather than discard these vehicles, the Israel Defense Forces refurbished and modified many of them for operational service under the Tiran designation.

The Tiran 5 was based specifically on the T-55 and initially retained its Soviet 100mm D-10T-series main gun. Israeli modifications included changes to communication equipment, external storage arrangements, machine gun installations, and other systems to better accommodate IDF operational requirements. Tiran tanks served with Israeli armored units during the late 1960s and 1970s, including the 1973 Yom Kippur War, with some later receiving more extensive Western armament and equipment.

About the Tamiya Military Miniature Series

Established in 1968, Tamiya's Military Miniature Series spans an extensive range of 1/35 scale kits covering tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, military personnel, and battlefield equipment from World War II through modern conflicts.
